Human Rights Reporters:
Reporting for Action!
Who Are We?
Human Rights Reporters (HRR) is an independent, non-partisan human rights initiative based in Sydney. We aim to document community experiences of human rights issues at a local level to create an evidence base for advocates, lawyers, policymakers, and researchers.
Australia is the only major democracy without a national human rights act or constitutional charter. This means that human rights have very little legal protection in Australia. Though Australia is widely known as ‘the lucky country’, it does face countless significant human rights concerns, including systemic discrimination against Indigenous people, the treatment of asylum seekers and refugees, accessible housing rights, disability rights, youth justice and climate change.
Thorough reporting and consistent monitoring of these rights is key to igniting change.
